Description For Staff Software Engineer, Sustainability and Efficiency

Google is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Sustainability and Efficiency to shape the future of green computing. The role involves developing analytics, models, tools, and systems to flatten lifecycle carbon emission curves for compute infrastructure. You'll work on carbon reduction optimizations for general-purpose compute and accelerated ML platforms, focusing on hardware-software co-optimizations for Cloud and internal use cases. Responsibilities include developing energy efficiency and lifecycle evaluation support for hardware products, evaluating new system architectures, and improving the end-to-end software stack. The position requires leadership in cross-functional projects, data-driven approaches, and the ability to manage priorities and deliverables. This role is part of Google's Technical Infrastructure team, which builds and maintains the architecture behind Google's product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, data structures/algorithms, and experience in performance and computer architecture. The position offers opportunities to work on cutting-edge technologies and contribute to Google's sustainability goals while addressing the challenges of increasing LLM and Cloud demands.

  • Lead cross-functional projects to reduce the carbon footprint of Google's compute infrastructure, from initial concept through analysis, development, and launch

Requirements For Staff Software Engineer, Sustainability and Efficiency

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture
  • Experience in Performance and Computer Architecture
