Google Cloud is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead sustainability and efficiency initiatives in systems research. This role combines hardware and software expertise to tackle critical challenges in green computing and carbon emission reduction. You'll work on next-generation technologies that impact billions of users, focusing on sustainable solutions for Large Language Models (LLM) and Cloud infrastructure.

The position requires deep expertise in software development, system architecture, and performance analysis. You'll be responsible for developing innovative solutions to balance compute needs with environmental impact, working across various teams including hardware, kernel, networking, CoreML, GCE, and Borg. The role involves creating metrics and methodologies for optimizing system design with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.

Requirements For Staff Software Engineer, Sustainability and Efficiency, Systems Research

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms
  • 7 years of experience with performance, systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture, and testing/launching software products
  • PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience designing and implementing complex or experimental systems (preferred)
  • Experience with ML and computer systems intersection (preferred)
  • Author/Co-author of well-known papers in top systems venues (preferred)
