Description For Structural Design Engineer, Tablet and Home Device

Google's Devices & Services team is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to join their Tablet, Tracker, and Home (TTH) structural team. This role is part of the Predictive Engineering and Methods team, focusing on designing and developing quality Google hardware products through predictable simulation and validation. The position involves working with multidisciplinary teams including Product Design, Industrial Design, Hardware Engineering, Reliability and Operations to drive product development from concept to production.

The role requires expertise in mechanical engineering, particularly in structural simulation and material properties. You'll be responsible for conducting complex analyses, generating FEA models, and ensuring product structural integrity. The position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge consumer electronics, combining Google's strengths in AI, Software, and Hardware to create innovative user experiences.

As part of Google's Platforms Team, you'll contribute to designing and building hardware that powers Google's services. The role demands both technical expertise and collaborative skills, as you'll work across teams to optimize designs, validate concepts, and solve complex engineering challenges. Responsibilities For Structural Design Engineer, Tablet and Home Device

  • Own and drive analysis of designs, enabling early optimization prior to prototyping, root cause, and failure analysis of mechanical problems
  • Generate FEA models of mechanical parts, modules, and assemblies, use static, dynamic, structural and thermal-mechanical analysis
  • Build simulation models using verification, calibration, and validation techniques
  • Drive the exploration, validation, and integration of new technologies, materials, analysis methods, and tools
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risk, create analysis/simulation/validation plan, and propose solutions

Requirements For Structural Design Engineer, Tablet and Home Device

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical properties of materials including glass, ceramics, metals, plastics, polymers, adhesives
  • 5 years of experience with structural simulation software and numerical methods, modeling practices, and FEA tools (e.g., Abaqus, Ansys, etc.)
  • English proficiency is required
