Description For Systems Development Engineer, Customer Deployments

Systems Development Engineering (SDE) at Google is a role where you manage services and systems at scale. As a Systems Development Engineer for Google Distributed Cloud Hosted (GDCH), you will be responsible for deploying GDCH solutions at customer sites and internal reference deployments. You will build deep expertise in deploying and operating GDCH solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing complex troubleshooting of Infrastructure issues (Network, Storage, Servers, OS, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Participating in Customer, Partner, and Internal team Deployments and training, requiring international travel
  • Delivering train-the-trainer programs for Google partners
  • Participating in 24x7 on-call rotation for escalations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience working in production distributed environments
  • Experience in TCP/IP and networking concepts
  • Experience in infrastructure areas (Linux, Kubernetes, Networking, Storage, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Level 2 security clearance (SÜ2) under the German Classification Act (SÜG)

Preferred qualifications include experience as a Customer Solution Engineer, SRE or IT production systems engineering experience, scripting skills, excellent relationship-building and problem-solving skills, and willingness to travel internationally up to 25% of the time.

Responsibilities For Systems Development Engineer, Customer Deployments

  • Perform complex day to day troubleshooting and resolution of Infrastructure issues (Network, Storage, Servers, OS, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Participate in Customer, Partner, and Internal team Deployments and training which will require international travel
  • Deliver train-the-trainer programs to equip Google partners with the knowledge and skills to effectively conduct customer deployments independently
  • Participate in the 24x7 on-call rotation to support escalations from client deployments as well as internal reference deployments

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience working in production distributed environments
  • Experience in TCP/IP and networking concepts (PXE boot, Subnets, VLANs, Jumbo Frames, LACP, NIC Teaming, Unicast/Broadcast/Multicast, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, SSH, etc.)
  • Experience in one of the areas of infrastructure (e.g., Linux, Kubernetes, Networking, Storage, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Level 2 security clearance (SÜ2) under the German Classification Act (SÜG)
