Google is seeking a Systems Development Engineer for their Google Distributed Cloud Hosted (GDCH) team. This role combines infrastructure management, deployment expertise, and customer-facing responsibilities. As an SDE, you'll be at the forefront of managing Google's services and systems at scale, focusing on automation and tool development to solve complex problems.

The position requires deep technical knowledge in distributed systems, networking, and infrastructure components, with a strong emphasis on deploying GDCH solutions at customer sites and internal reference deployments. You'll work with cutting-edge technology while participating in customer deployments, training programs, and 24x7 support rotations.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in production distributed environments, strong networking knowledge, and infrastructure expertise. You'll need to balance technical skills with customer relationship management, as the role involves significant interaction with partners and clients through training and deployment activities.

Responsibilities For Systems Development Engineer, Customer Deployments

  • Perform complex day to day troubleshooting and resolution of Infrastructure issues (Network, Storage, Servers, OS, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Participate in Customer, Partner, and Internal team Deployments and training which will require international travel
  • Deliver train-the-trainer programs to equip Google partners with the knowledge and skills to effectively conduct customer deployments independently
  • Participate in the 24x7 on-call rotation to support escalations from client deployments as well as internal reference deployments

Requirements For Systems Development Engineer, Customer Deployments

Linux
Kubernetes
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience working in production distributed environments
  • Experience in TCP/IP and networking concepts (PXE boot, Subnets, VLANs, Jumbo Frames, LACP, NIC Teaming, Unicast/Broadcast/Multicast, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, SSH, etc.)
  • Experience in one of the areas of infrastructure (e.g., Linux, Kubernetes, Networking, Storage, etc.)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Level 2 security clearance (SÜ2) under the German Classification Act (SÜG)
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 25% of the time
