Google is seeking a Systems Development Engineer for Customer Deployments to join their team in Berlin, Germany. This role is part of the Systems Development Engineering (SDE) team, where you'll manage services and systems at scale, focusing on Google Distributed Cloud Hosted (GDCH) solutions.

As a Systems Development Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of deploying GDCH solutions at customer sites and internal reference deployments. The role combines deep technical expertise with customer-facing responsibilities, requiring both strong engineering skills and excellent communication abilities. You'll be working with cutting-edge cloud technology while helping Google's partners and customers succeed in their digital transformation journeys.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, along with 5 years of experience in production distributed environments. You'll need strong knowledge of infrastructure components, including Linux, Kubernetes, networking, and storage systems. The role involves international travel (up to 25%) and participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical challenges and customer interaction.

Key responsibilities include complex troubleshooting of infrastructure issues, conducting deployments and training sessions, and delivering train-the-trainer programs. Responsibilities For Systems Development Engineer, Customer Deployments

  • Perform complex day to day troubleshooting and resolution of Infrastructure issues (Network, Storage, Servers, OS, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Participate in Customer, Partner, and Internal team Deployments and training which will require international travel
  • Deliver train-the-trainer programs to equip Google partners with the knowledge and skills to effectively conduct customer deployments independently
  • Participate in the 24x7 on-call rotation to support escalations from client deployments as well as internal reference deployments

Requirements For Systems Development Engineer, Customer Deployments

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience working in production distributed environments
  • Experience in TCP/IP and networking concepts (PXE boot, Subnets, VLANs, Jumbo Frames, LACP, NIC Teaming, Unicast/Broadcast/Multicast, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, SSH, etc.)
  • Experience in one of the areas of infrastructure (e.g., Linux, Kubernetes, Networking, Storage, etc.)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Level 2 security clearance (SÜ2) under the German Classification Act (SÜG)
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 25% of the time
