Description For Technical Operations Manager, Third-Party Data Centers

Google's Third-Party Data Center Operations team is seeking a Technical Operations Manager to oversee their colocation facilities. This role is crucial in providing technical due diligence for site selection and maintaining vendor-operated data centers. As part of the Technical Infrastructure team, you'll be responsible for the reliable operation of mechanical and electrical infrastructure, working closely with vendor operators to ensure success.

The position involves managing colocation operations for electrical, cooling, and IT infrastructure, requiring close collaboration with Google's Data Center Engineering team, Hardware Operations, Network Infrastructure, and third-party vendors. You'll be the operations organization's representative, ensuring operability, maintainability, and reliability of Google's assets.

This role offers an opportunity to work with Google's Technical Infrastructure team, which is fundamental to keeping Google's extensive product portfolio running. The team takes pride in being the "engineers' engineers," maintaining networks and data centers while building next-generation Google platforms. You'll be part of a team that ensures users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities For Technical Operations Manager, Third-Party Data Centers

  • Support the site selection process through operational and technical knowledge
  • Perform operational assessment and risk analysis of third-party colocation sites
  • Own colocation sites facility operation within an area/region, with full accountability for this area tactical and strategical
  • Keep main stakeholders informed about current work and discuss decisions and directions with them
  • Contribute to focus area strategy and setting strategy for local groups

Requirements For Technical Operations Manager, Third-Party Data Centers

Linux
Kubernetes
  • Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 7 years of experience in operations management and facilities management
  • Experience in Critical Facility Operation Management
  • Experience working in data center environments, including building and operating infrastructure
  • Experience with initiating and executing initiatives in a global environment
  • Ability to perform operational assessment and risk analysis of third-party sites
  • Ability to forecast resource requirements in a data-driven way
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
