Description For Technical Operations Manager, Third-Party Data Centers

Google's Third-Party Data Center Operations team is seeking a Technical Operations Manager to oversee their colocation facilities. This role is crucial in providing technical analysis for site selection, maintaining vendor operated data centers, and managing critical work risk. The position involves working with electrical, cooling, and IT infrastructure, partnering closely with Google's Data Center Engineering team, Hardware Operations, Network Infrastructure, and third-party vendors.

As part of Google's Technical Infrastructure team, you'll be instrumental in keeping the architecture running behind all of Google's user-facing services. The team takes pride in being the engineers' engineers, maintaining and developing data centers, and building next-generation Google platforms. The role requires a strong background in operations management and facilities management, with a focus on data center environments.

The ideal candidate will bring 7+ years of experience in operations and facilities management, with specific expertise in Critical Facility Operation Management. You'll be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of mechanical and electrical infrastructure, working closely with vendor operators to maintain optimal performance. The position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology while managing critical infrastructure that powers Google's global services.

This role combines technical expertise with leadership skills, requiring someone who can both understand complex technical systems and effectively manage teams and stakeholders. Responsibilities For Technical Operations Manager, Third-Party Data Centers

  • Support the site selection process through operational and technical knowledge
  • Perform operational assessment and risk analysis of third-party colocation sites
  • Own colocation sites facility operation within an area/region, with full accountability for this area tactically and strategically
  • Keep main stakeholders informed about current work and discuss decisions and directions with them
  • Contribute to focus area strategy and setting strategy for local groups

Requirements For Technical Operations Manager, Third-Party Data Centers

Linux
Kubernetes
  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 7 years of experience in operations management and facilities management
  • Experience in Critical Facility Operation Management
  • Experience working in data center environments, including building and operating infrastructure
  • Experience with initiating and executing initiatives in a global environment
  • Ability to perform operational assessment and risk analysis of third-party sites
  • Ability to forecast resource requirements in a data-driven way
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Passion for operations and people management
