Google is seeking a Technical Program Manager to join their Global Submarine Networks team, focusing on marine maintenance operations. This role is crucial in managing and coordinating submarine cable systems maintenance, working with various stakeholders including repair authorities, ship operators, and maintenance authorities. The position requires a strong background in marine industry operations and program management, combining technical expertise with leadership skills.

The role sits within Google's Technical Infrastructure team, which is responsible for building and maintaining the architecture that powers Google's extensive product portfolio. As a Technical Program Manager, you'll be responsible for regional maintenance planning, incident management, and leading cable repair coordination. You'll also review new cable systems, ensure data quality, and represent Google's interests in consortium-owned cables.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of experience in both program management and marine industry operations, with a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Network Operations, Marine Engineering, or a related field. Preferred candidates will have 10 years of technical program leadership experience and strong expertise in the submarine cable industry.

Responsibilities For Technical Program Manager, Marine Maintenance, Global Submarine Networks

  • Responsible for regional maintenance planning, incident management and leading cable repair co-ordination
  • Work with repair authorities, ship operators, maintenance authorities, and outside related agencies and organizations
  • Review of new cable systems handover from build to operate teams, ensure data quality, conduct live checks and maintenance solutions
  • Represent Google's interests in working groups and forums within consortium-owned cables
  • Monitor and review performance of service providers, ensure maintenance service delivery is in quality and health and safety standards
  • Provide support and cover to Google's global marine maintenance team outside of the region, as required

Requirements For Technical Program Manager, Marine Maintenance, Global Submarine Networks

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Network Operations, Marine Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience in program management
  • 5 years of experience in the marine Industry with marine repair coordination or ship operations management roles
  • 10 years of experience in leading technical programs, project management with excellent cross-functional collaboration (preferred)
  • 5 years of experience in managing cross-functional or cross-team projects (preferred)
  • Experience in submarine cable industry operation (preferred)
  • Excellent external organization/supplier network with insights into marine maintenance agreement structures (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and people management skills (preferred)
