Google is seeking a Thermal Engineer for the Pixel Watch team. As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you will use your creativity and diverse range of engineering experience to explore solutions to various engineering problems. You will participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts, working in a manufacturing and product-oriented development environment. The Pixel Watch Structural and Thermal Simulation team provides product design guidance for upcoming Watches based on Finite Element and CFD models, focusing on improving and validating models through material, component, and system-level testing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Influencing product direction through cross-functional negotiations and teamwork based on thermal design, simulation (CFD), and validation.
- Creating test plans to validate design and correlate test results to simulation data, improving predictability of simulation models.
- Interpreting and summarizing thermal data, highlighting risks, and providing recommendations to program teams and upper management.
- Guiding cross-functional team members in hardware and software to provide feedback on product thermal performance, thermal throttling strategy, and appropriate design changes.
- Working with certification agencies on meeting requirements and mitigating concerns.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in thermal design using CFD tools such as Icepak/FlothermXT for analysis of products.
- Experience with heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
- Experience setting up test plans for validation.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
- 8 years of experience in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and CFD modeling.
- Experience writing automation scripts (e.g., Linux shell, Python).
- Experience with the development and integration of electro-mechanical components.
- Knowledge of thermal materials like gels, TIF, heat sinks, graphites, and other heat spreaders.
Google is committed to diversity, equality, and inclusion, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and providing accommodations as needed.
