Description For Tier 2 Security Incident Response Engineer

Google Public Sector is seeking a Tier 2 Security Incident Response Engineer to join their team dedicated to protecting public sector customers. This role involves monitoring and investigating security incidents for Google's public sector customers, working in a 24/7/365 environment. The position requires a deep understanding of security threats facing public sector organizations and expertise in the latest security technologies.

The role combines technical expertise with incident response capabilities, requiring both hands-on security analysis and stakeholder management skills. You'll be part of a team of security engineers and analysts, working to ensure the safety and security of government and educational institutions' digital assets.

As a Tier 2 Security Incident Response Engineer, you'll be responsible for analyzing alerts, monitoring security dashboards, and leading response efforts to security incidents. The position requires a strong background in technical project management and security certifications, along with the ability to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

The compensation package is competitive, ranging from $161,000 to $239,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits. This position requires a US Government Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) security clearance and is based in Reston, VA.

Responsibilities For Tier 2 Security Incident Response Engineer

  • Analyze new alerts generated by correlation/alerting tools and other external alert sources
  • Review security operations center dashboards for anomalous activity
  • Escalate complex/unusual incidents to the executive Security Consulting team
  • Lead response efforts to low severity incidents
  • Support the response to high and medium severity security incidents as directed

Requirements For Tier 2 Security Incident Response Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Completed course offerings listed in DoD 8140 Training repository, or CEH, GSEC or Security+ certification
  • 5 years of experience in technical project management, stakeholder management, professional services
  • 1 year of experience in technical troubleshooting and writing code
  • US Government Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) security clearance
