Senior Backend Engineer

Grafana Labs is seeking a senior level backend engineer to join the Asserts.ai team within the Observability group. This role involves building and leading backend initiatives for a set of low-latency microservices built in Java, working with databases like Graph DB. The services provide automated Root Cause Insights by querying Grafana Cloud Metrics, Traces, and Logs databases, integrating with Grafana platform components.

As a senior backend engineer, you will:

• Drive technical and business strategy in the Observability department
• Influence the product roadmap and drive innovations
• Create system designs and collaborate across teams
• Build and operate critical systems, owning their reliability and performance
• Participate in on-call rotations
• Mentor team members and become a subject matter expert in observability products

The ideal candidate has:

• Strong experience in Java programming and microservices
• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• A background in building and deploying SaaS software
• Experience in operating production services and on-call rotations
• A customer-focused approach and passion for creating intuitive products
• The ability to deliver projects from requirements to shipping
• A desire to mentor others and share knowledge through blog posts and tech talks
