Senior Backend Engineer - Databases, Tempo

Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their Tempo team, focusing on distributed tracing backend development. This remote position is open to candidates in Sweden or Spain.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be working on Tempo, an open-source distributed tracing backend that's a key component of Grafana Enterprise Traces (GET). Your responsibilities will include:

• Collaborating with your team to deliver new features, analyze outcomes, and make improvements
• Leading projects from concept to implementation, including ongoing customer support
• Designing, building, operating, and maintaining essential systems
• Influencing the product roadmap and your own career objectives
• Participating in on-call rotations
• Supporting and mentoring team members

The ideal candidate should have:

• Solid experience with at least one programming language (Go preferred, but Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar are translatable)
• Experience in delivering projects from requirements gathering to shipping
• Experience with Cloud software development or systems engineering
• Ability to write clean, robust, and performant software

Nice-to-haves include:

• Experience with Kubernetes
• Familiarity with Grafana and Prometheus
• Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems
• Experience with on-call duties and operations/SRE tasks
