Description For Staff Software Engineer - Alloy and OpenTelemetry Collector

Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform integrating metrics, logs, and traces with Grafana. The Observability department focuses on enabling developers to understand the health and performance of their applications and infrastructure. As a Staff Software Engineer for Alloy and OpenTelemetry Collector, you'll work on Grafana Alloy, an open source OpenTelemetry Collector distribution. You'll collaborate with the upstream OpenTelemetry collector community, contribute to design documents, support customers with observability pipelines, and participate in on-call rotations. The role requires passion for observability, excellent communication skills, and relevant open source experience, ideally in OpenTelemetry or Prometheus. Grafana Labs is a remote-first, global company that values diversity and provides opportunities to contribute to Open Source communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver new functionality for the Alloy team
  • Contribute to and review design documents
  • Be an active member of the OpenTelemetry collector community
  • Ensure Alloy integrates well with Prometheus components

  • Collaborate with other Grafana teams
  • Participate in on-call rotations
