Gusto is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join their Growth organization, a product team focused on driving revenue growth. This role is crucial in accelerating Gusto's revenue growth by providing a platform for customer acquisition efforts, building an ML-powered recommendation engine for ACV expansion initiatives, and redesigning the onboarding and activation platform.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of solving complex problems and contributing to the overall strategy of growing Gusto. You'll work on defining and executing projects that contribute to the Growth team's technical roadmap, partnering with cross-functional teams to tackle ambiguous problems, and translating them into engineering solutions that drive customer acquisition and ACV expansion.
Your responsibilities will include identifying areas for process and technical improvements, collaborating with tech leads, product managers, designers, and data scientists to understand investment opportunities, and delivering innovative solutions. You'll need to be adaptable, sometimes embedding in a team for extended periods to deliver complex initiatives, and other times kicking off or jumping into projects to drive alignment and set teams up for success.
The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong background in scaling Engineering organizations and web development expertise. Experience in highly cross-functional environments, as a tech lead overseeing projects across multiple teams, and in experimentation and user experience optimization is crucial. Knowledge of recommendation engines, Machine Learning, and experience in customer acquisition and ACV expansion efforts are considered valuable assets.
Gusto offers a competitive compensation package, with a salary range of $215,000-$270,000 per year, depending on location, plus stock equity. The company has a hybrid work model, with employees expected to work from the office 2-3 days per week in their Denver, San Francisco, or New York City locations.
