Engineering Lead - Company OS

This role combines technical leadership with system design expertise, requiring 12+ years of software development experience. The position offers a competitive salary range of $191,000-$279,000 depending on location, plus equity.

The ideal candidate will lead the development of next-generation systems that power the company's full lifecycle, working from Gusto's offices in Denver, San Francisco, or New York with a hybrid work arrangement (2-3 days in office). You'll be responsible for evolving existing systems, collaborating across functions, and mentoring team members while maintaining a strong focus on technical excellence.

Key responsibilities include building complex backend systems, API design, and data modeling, while working closely with product and design teams to deliver customer value. The role requires expertise in distributed systems, experience with Ruby on Rails or similar frameworks, and a proven track record of scaling companies from small to large.
