Principal Software Engineer, Gusto Money

Gusto Money is a new team focused on delivering a suite of employer-based financial services (e.g. invoicing, bill pay, expense management, lending, etc.). We're in the early stages, building a brand new revenue stream and front door for Gusto, which will be key to unlocking Gusto's next phase of growth. This is a high visibility initiative with potential to drive significant revenue and company-wide impact.

As a Principal Software Engineer on this team, you will:

• Build the software platform powering new employer-based financial services
• Work with engineering leadership to build out the team and set engineering culture and standards
• Mentor and guide software engineers, fostering their growth and development
• Take ownership of projects, ensuring high standards of quality and performance
• Collaborate on complex problems with cross-functional teams
• Help drive the product development process from concept to launch

We're looking for candidates with:

• 15+ years of professional software development experience
• Comfort dealing with ambiguity and working in a 0-1 environment
• Experience architecting, building, and testing large-scale distributed systems
• Experience as a technical lead overseeing multiple engineers and teams
• Strong mentoring skills and ability to uplevel engineering culture
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical complexity
• Willingness to collaborate across different functions
• Aptitude for bringing clarity to complex problems

Experience in the Fintech industry is a plus but not required.
