Description For Lead Flight Software Engineer

Hermeus, an innovative aerospace and defense technology company, is revolutionizing air travel through the development of hypersonic aircraft. They are currently seeking a Lead Flight Software Engineer to join their mission of creating cutting-edge aircraft systems.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of aerospace technology, leading the development of mission-critical flight software for hypersonic aircraft. As the Lead Flight Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for overseeing a team developing embedded systems that control various aspects of aircraft operation, from flight controls to navigation and avionics.

The position requires a strong background in embedded systems and safety-critical software development, with at least 5 years of experience and demonstrated leadership capabilities. You'll be working with cutting-edge technology in hypersonic aviation, contributing to projects like Quarterhorse and Darkhorse - an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed for military applications.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to make a significant impact in the aerospace industry. You'll be working in a startup environment that values hardware-rich, iterative development combined with modern computing and autonomy. The role offers competitive compensation ranging from $174,000 to $235,000 annually.

The position is based in either Atlanta, GA or Los Angeles, CA, requiring on-site presence. You'll be working closely with hardware and systems engineers, leading technical decisions, and ensuring all software meets rigorous safety standards. This role is perfect for someone who combines technical expertise with leadership skills and has a passion for pushing the boundaries of what's possible in aviation.

Key aspects of the role include leading architecture decisions, managing the technical roadmap, implementing testing strategies, and ensuring compliance with aviation safety standards like DO-178C. You'll be at the intersection of software and hardware, working on real-world systems that will shape the future of air travel.

The ideal candidate will bring not only technical skills in C/C++ and embedded systems but also strong leadership capabilities and excellent communication skills. Experience with RTOS, avionics systems, and safety-critical software development will be highly valued.

Join Hermeus and be part of a team that's working to radically accelerate air travel through innovative technology and engineering excellence.
