Description For Principal Propulsion Engineer

Hermeus, an innovative aerospace and defense technology company, is seeking a Principal Propulsion Engineer to join their mission of revolutionizing air travel through hypersonic aircraft development. The role is centered within the Engines team, focusing on the development of Chimera, a critical propulsion system for the Quarterhorse flight vehicle program. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge combined turbojet-ramjet engine technology and contribute to both civilian and military applications like the Darkhorse uncrewed hypersonic aircraft.

The ideal candidate will bring 8+ years of expertise in jet or rocket propulsion hardware design, with hands-on experience taking projects from concept to testing. You'll be responsible for leading crucial aspects of engine development, from initial design through flight operations, working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians.

This role demands deep technical knowledge in aerospace fundamentals, including combustion, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics. The position offers exposure to rare engineering challenges in hypersonic propulsion, with the opportunity to work on technology few engineers ever encounter. The fast-paced environment requires both technical excellence and the ability to work efficiently and cost-effectively.

The compensation package reflects the senior nature of the role, ranging from $170,000 to $225,000 annually. Based in Los Angeles or Atlanta, this position requires on-site presence and occasional travel for test campaigns. Join Hermeus to be at the forefront of hypersonic aviation and contribute to groundbreaking aerospace innovations.
