Description For Mechanical Design Engineer

Hexagon US Federal, an independent subsidiary of Hexagon Corporation, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Huntsville, AL. This role is part of a collaborative design team working on product requirements for industrial and DoD use. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and experienced in mechanical engineering, tasked with designing and integrating electronic suites of equipment into final deliverable products.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing CAD/CAM/PLM software to create detailed product drawings and 3D models
  • Collaborating with engineering, production, and support staff
  • Interacting directly with customers
  • Designing unique hardware and systems for government customers, including navigation systems, consoles, ruggedized hardware, and condition-based maintenance systems
  • Working across the IPD engineering team to design and manage products to delivery

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 4 years of direct experience in mechanical design
  • Proficiency in CAD systems (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivation
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Excellent multitasking and prioritization skills
  • Willingness to learn new processes and design applications
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance if required
  • Expertise in producing quality engineering drawings and understanding engineering standards
  • Proficiency in designing parts for third-party fabrication
  • Experience in creating and maintaining drawing packages
  • Ability to interpret product drawings across multiple functional groups
  • Physical ability to lift 25lbs and operate basic hand tools

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Solid Edge
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD environmental qualification testing
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Familiarity with military hardware designs/standards
  • Experience with technical input and proposal efforts
