Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking Systems Engineers for their Research & Development team. This role involves working on a large distributed compute cluster, petabyte-scale storage, operating systems, automation software, and development tools. As a Systems Engineer, you'll impact live trading and research operations worldwide. Responsibilities include managing HPC environments, designing services for research, hardware/software installation, remote administration, monitoring, testing, automation, and performance tuning. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience, Linux expertise, scripting skills, and strong communication abilities. Responsibilities For Systems Engineer - Research & Development
- Plan/execute technical projects to make Linux research systems faster, adaptable, and more maintainable
- Manage and optimize large scale distributed compute/HPC clusters
- Automate/troubleshoot technical infrastructure including configuration management, monitoring, metrics, and logging
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues throughout the stack, from kernel to HPC scheduler
- Performance testing and tuning
- Scripting to automate repetitive tasks
- Working with vendors and upstream to resolve issues
Requirements For Systems Engineer - Research & Development
- Expertise in installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Linux systems
- Comfortable using Linux/UNIX command line tools and tuning kernel performance
- Experience with configuration management tools
- Python or Shell scripting experience
- Attention to detail needed to manage and debug production services
- Strong communication and organization
- Ability to context switch to work on several projects at once
- 5+ years of relevant experience
