As a Crop Phenotyping Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in executing and developing hardware for row crop phenotyping experiments, both in the field and controlled environments. You'll work with cross-functional teams, implement robotics and image-based phenotyping, and advance high-throughput methods. The ideal candidate has an MS/MEng or PhD in a relevant field, proficiency in phenotyping techniques, CAD skills, programming abilities, and strong interpersonal skills. Responsibilities For Crop Phenotyping Engineer
- Execute and develop hardware for row crop phenotyping experiments
- Foster cross-functional relationships with project leads and operational personnel
- Refine, implement, and scale manual and robotics/image-based phenotyping
- Supervise and direct seasonal staff
- Advance a culture of standardized data acquisition, procedures, and documentation
- Communicate through technical reports and oral presentations
- Contribute to the advancement of high-throughput phenotyping methods
- Coordinate with local team and stakeholders in multiple locations
- Model behaviors consistent with highest safety standards
Requirements For Crop Phenotyping Engineer
- MS/MEng or PhD in agricultural, mechanical, electrical engineering, plant biology, plant physiology, agronomy, or plant breeding (or bachelor's with equivalent industry experience)
- Proficiency in standard phenotyping techniques for major row crops
- Working proficiency in CAD and 3D printing
- Basic skills in electrical engineering
- Working proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java/Kotlin, C++/C#, etc)
- Familiarity with modern methods from optics and image processing
- Strong interpersonal skills
