Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), founded by George Lucas in 1975, is seeking Lighting Technical Directors for their London office. This role is crucial in producing high-quality CG lighting and rendering for complex shots in high-end photo-realistic visual effects. The position offers an opportunity to work at the world's leading visual effects facility, which has contributed to many of the highest-grossing films of all time. The role requires a blend of technical expertise in VFX pipelines, lighting, and rendering, along with creative skills in photography and aesthetics. Working in a hybrid model, team members will collaborate with Lighting Supervisors and CG Supervisors while having the autonomy to solve complex technical challenges. ILM's continued innovation in visual effects, VR, AR, and Immersive Cinema makes this an exciting opportunity for those passionate about pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling. The position requires minimum 2 days per week in the London office, offering a balance between collaborative in-person work and remote flexibility.
Responsibilities For Lighting Technical Director (All levels) - ILM London
- Design and create lighting and look of computer-generated objects and scenes
- Final CG scene assembly, lighting and rendering of complex shots
- Work with Supervisors to determine best approach to solving CG challenges
- Create lighting setups and/or work within current setups
- Create efficient rendering setups to optimize render farm usage
Requirements For Lighting Technical Director (All levels) - ILM London
- In-depth understanding of the VFX pipeline
- Real-world expertise in lighting and photography
- Advanced Lighting and Rendering experience within a VFX environment
- Experience performing shot Look Dev tasks
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of Python and/or MEL scripting
- Good knowledge of Nuke or similar compositing package
- Understanding of Linux based operating systems
- Knowledge of physically plausible shading techniques
- Strong knowledge of lighting techniques
- Pipeline scripting ability
- Knowledge of Renderman
