Description For Production Engineering Intern (Summer 2025)

Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), founded by George Lucas in 1975, is seeking Production Engineering interns for Summer 2025. This 16-week paid internship offers a unique opportunity to work with the company that has created visual effects for iconic films like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and The Avengers.

The Production Engineering group at ILM develops cutting-edge technology that enables artists to create stunning visuals. With over 70 software engineers working alongside thousands of digital artists across studios in San Francisco, Vancouver, London, Sydney, and Mumbai, interns will be immersed in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

As an intern, you'll contribute to real projects, developing tools and production techniques across various areas of visual effects and animation production. This includes work in image processing, simulation, lighting, modeling, and pipeline systems. The role offers hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and technologies while receiving mentorship from leaders in the VFX industry.

The ideal candidate should be pursuing a Computer Science degree, demonstrate strong programming skills in Python or C++, and have a passion for applying technology to film and visual effects. Experience with 3D software like Maya or Houdini, machine learning, or GUI development is a plus. The position offers competitive compensation at C$25/hour with select benefits.
