Description For Controls & Automation Engineer

Isar Aerospace, a pioneering New Space company, is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer to join their team in Kiruna, Sweden. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge rocket engine test facilities while being part of a mission to democratize space access.

The position involves maintaining and upgrading the control system of the Isar rocket engine test facility, with responsibilities spanning both software and hardware elements. You'll collaborate closely with the Munich control systems team and work alongside Propulsion Test Engineers in day-to-day operations.

As the Controls & Automation Engineer, you'll be instrumental in developing PLC software, designing hardware setups, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of critical systems. The role requires a strong background in automation technology, with at least 2 years of experience in PLC technology and programming.

Responsibilities For Controls & Automation Engineer

  • Develop PLC software for existing and future control systems in Kiruna
  • Design PLC hardware setups and PLC-related networks
  • Perform risk analyses and design safety-critical electrical systems
  • Commission control systems and maintain/upgrade them
  • Be responsible for hardware and software related topics on site
  • Perform rocket engine tests as part of the local test engineering and operations team

Requirements For Controls & Automation Engineer

  • Degree in electrical engineering, automation technology, or similar, or a certified engineer in automation technology
  • At least 2 years of experience in automation and PLC technology
  • Experience in PLC programming (soft-PLC) and commissioning using Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 or CODESYS based systems
  • Experience in giving technical support and troubleshooting in the field and remotely
  • Knowledge about fieldbus systems
  • Basic understanding of electrical schematics
  • Fluent in English
