The Staff, Advanced Manufacturing Engineer at Juul Labs is responsible for the definition, planning, coordination, and execution of manufacturing automation, semi-automation, manual fixturing, sustaining operations, and process improvement for Juul devices, pods, and accessories. This role supports product development in areas such as requirements specification, design reviews, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis, and equipment qualification, field, and site acceptance tests (FAT/SAT).
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing acceptance testing and installation of automated equipment at vendors and contract manufacturers
- Ensuring machine operation, service, PM manual, mechanical and electrical drawings, and software are controlled and updated
- Collaborating with CM's automation and/or equipment engineering team to identify areas for improvement and implement resolutions to automation challenges
- Defining critical and consumable spare parts lifetime
- Coordinating and documenting project designs, estimates, schedules, and costs
- Monitoring and managing changes to project schedule, cost, and scope
- Identifying, communicating, and managing ongoing project/technical risks related to equipment and process development
- Supporting the development of process work instructions, calibration and preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment qualification/validation documentation
The ideal candidate will have:
- 10+ years of experience specifying, designing, and/or qualifying automated manufacturing lines and robotic applications, preferably in high-volume manufacturing
- 3+ years of experience working on key manufacturing processes (electronics component assembly, finished good assembly, and liquid filling)
- Excellent project management skills (PMP certification preferred)
- Strong ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines
- Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Lean Manufacturing, Process Control Concepts, Design of Experiments (DOE), Software Validation, and design/process Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
- Relevant automation / AME experience with high-volume device manufacturing (medical, pharma, consumer electronics, or food/beverage industry)
- Strong analytical mind, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to be a flexible and dynamic team player
