Description For Senior Mechanical Engineer (Avionics)

K2 Space is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in Avionics to join their innovative spacecraft development team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge satellite technology, where you'll be responsible for the success of Avionics Hardware crucial to satellite operations. Within your first six months, you'll be deeply involved in defining mechanical requirements, creating concepts, and producing development hardware. The role combines hands-on engineering with strategic planning, offering the unique opportunity to see your work launched into space within two years.

The position requires a strong background in mechanical and aerospace engineering, with at least 5 years of experience in mechanical/electromechanical design. You'll be working with state-of-the-art technology and will have the opportunity to influence both sub-system and top-level product direction. The role offers competitive compensation between $100,000-$175,000 plus equity, comprehensive benefits including unlimited PTO, and the chance to work on spacecraft unlike any other.

Responsibilities For Senior Mechanical Engineer (Avionics)

  • Take hardware and mechanisms from conceptual design through qualification to on-orbit operations
  • Lead design reviews from kickoff through qualification and beyond
  • Drive hardware development, including hands-on development testing
  • Perform hardware trades that steer both sub-system and top-level product direction
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to establish product requirements
  • Continually own and refine system deliverables and associated schedules

Requirements For Senior Mechanical Engineer (Avionics)

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or other relevant engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of experience with mechanical and/or electromechanical design and analysis
  • Experience with CAD or FEA software packages
  • Experience with the practical application of GD&T
  • Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical design, materials, thermodynamics, and fluids
  • Experience designing Electro-Mechanical assemblies
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR regulations
