Description For Instrumentation & Controls Electronics Test Engineer

Kairos Power is seeking an innovative, early-career engineer to join their Plant Instrumentation, Control & Electrical (IC&E) systems design team. The role focuses on testing analog and digital electronics designs developed in-house for cutting-edge reactor technology in commercial nuclear power plants, demonstration, and test facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare I&C system designs for verification, validation, and real-world use
  • Develop and conduct hands-on tests to characterize operating behavior
  • Work with design engineers and stakeholders to develop system requirements
  • Use hardware-in-the-loop test stands to combine simulation with real-world hardware
  • Develop familiarity with FPGAs, microcontroller/microprocessor architectures, and PCB-level components
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to verify functional and performance margins
  • Support non-safety related control system design, implementation, and testing
  • Fault-find and document potential vulnerabilities in devices under test
  • Produce test rigs for experiments on PCBs (e.g., thermal aging, seismic, RF, ESD)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Nuclear, Computer Science, Computer Technology) or equivalent 4-year technical degree
  • Experience with common hardware (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Nucleo, Discovery)
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
  • Programming experience in Python, C, C++, or similar languages
  • Experience with test procedures and documentation
  • Knowledge of safe handling practices for electronics and electrical systems
  • Ability to read standards and develop compliance testing procedures
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative team

The role may require up to 10% travel and occasional non-standard work hours, including weekends and different shifts. Kairos Power offers competitive compensation and benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid vacation.

Join Kairos Power to contribute to the development of innovative nuclear energy technology and help enable the world's transition to clean energy.
