Kairos Power, a pioneering nuclear energy technology company, is seeking a Nuclear Shielding Engineer to join their Nuclear Design and Methods team. This role is crucial for the development of their Gen IV test reactor, Hermes, with the goal of achieving first criticality by 2027. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in neutronics, radiation transport, and shielding analysis. You'll be responsible for performing complex calculations using specialized tools like MCNP and Attila, developing radiation source terms, and conducting sensitivity studies for shielding improvements. Requirements For Nuclear Shielding Engineer

  • Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in Nuclear Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience with radiation transport analysis
  • 2+ years of demonstrated shielding design experience
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience working in nuclear facility
  • Experience with MCNPX/5/6 and variance reduction methods
  • Experience with CAD and geometrical meshes
  • Experience with modeling and simulation environments
  • Knowledge of radioactive decay sources in nuclear power
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving abilities
