Description For Platform Engineer

Kooth is seeking a Platform Engineer to work within a platform squad to maintain and improve Kooth's cloud infrastructure and tooling. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure across Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services, using Terraform and good Infrastructure-as-Code practices. The engineer will develop and maintain tools and shared libraries to maximize reliability and observability of software and services, primarily using Node.js. Key responsibilities include supporting software engineers, advising on cloud infrastructure and reliability matters, implementing compliance and security best practices, and participating in an off-hours on-call rotation. The ideal candidate will have significant experience with AWS or GCP, in-depth understanding of Terraform, working knowledge of Javascript and Node.js, and strong communication skills. Responsibilities For Platform Engineer

  • Designing, implementing and maintaining cloud infrastructure across Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services
  • Developing and maintaining tools and shared libraries to maximise reliability and observability of software and services
  • Supporting software engineers with tasks and investigations involving infrastructure and during incidents
  • Advising and consulting with other squads on cloud infrastructure and reliability matters
  • Upholding and implementing compliance and security best practices
  • Leveraging best practices in continuous integration and delivery
  • Collaborating across disciplines to build effective working relationships and solve challenging problems
  • Working with engineering leadership to create an empowered, ambitious and diverse engineering culture
  • Participating in an off-hours on-call rotation to support the ongoing reliable operation of systems

Requirements For Platform Engineer

  • Significant and recent experience with AWS or GCP
  • Experience with observability tools for metrics, log aggregation and request tracing
  • Ability to devise telemetry data that is correlated with actual customer outcomes
  • In-depth understanding of Terraform
  • Working knowledge of Javascript and Node.js
  • Passion for helping teams to deliver reliable and observable software
  • Knowledge of database technologies such as PostgreSQL, Google Datastore, BigQuery
  • Understanding of modern cloud architecture patterns
  • Focus on pragmatic delivery, able to take ownership and initiative to balance constraints
  • Strong communication skills, builds great colleague relationships across disciplines
