LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network, is seeking an experienced Director of Edge & Traffic Engineering to lead their global traffic management, DNS, and routing platform initiatives. This key leadership role is critical for ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability of LinkedIn's traffic routing systems across their global infrastructure.
The position requires a seasoned professional with 12+ years of experience in network engineering, including 8+ years in leadership roles. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in DNS, traffic engineering, and routing platforms, along with hands-on experience with technologies like Azure Front Door (AFD), Cloudflare, IPVS, Apache Traffic Server (ATS), and HAProxy.
As Director, you will be responsible for defining and executing comprehensive traffic engineering strategies that support the scalability and resiliency of LinkedIn's global platform. You'll lead initiatives for continuous improvement in performance, reliability, and availability of DNS, traffic routing, and load balancing systems. The role involves close collaboration with product, engineering, and infrastructure teams to align traffic engineering strategies with business objectives.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the architecture and optimization of traffic routing and DNS systems, managing DNS resolution and routing policies, and leading the deployment of geographically distributed traffic management systems. You'll also establish robust incident management processes, track key performance metrics, and drive automation initiatives to minimize downtime.

- Define, develop, and execute comprehensive traffic engineering strategy
- Drive continuous improvement in performance, reliability, and availability
- Oversee architecture and optimization of traffic routing and DNS systems
- Manage DNS resolution and traffic routing policies
- Lead deployment of geographically distributed traffic management systems
- Direct design and maintenance of traffic routing platforms
- Implement and monitor proxy systems
- Establish incident management processes
- Track key performance metrics and SLAs
- Lead and mentor traffic engineering team
Requirements For Director, Edge & Traffic Engineering
- Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 12+ years of experience in network engineering
- Minimum of 8 years in a leadership role
- 5+ experience managing large-scale, global networks
- Experience in networking technologies, protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS), traffic engineering, and load balancing
- Hands-on experience with edge networks, CDNs, cloud networking, and SDN
- Strong project management skills
- Experience with vendor management and contract negotiations
