Senior Software Engineering Manager, Espresso SRE

LinkedIn is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead their Espresso SRE team, focusing on the company's core data-as-a-service infrastructure. Espresso is LinkedIn's distributed, fault-tolerant NoSQL database system that serves approximately 30 million queries per second and manages 3 petabytes of source-of-truth data for over 400 LinkedIn applications.

The role combines technical leadership with people management, requiring both deep technical expertise in distributed systems and strong leadership capabilities. You'll be responsible for leading a team of engineers working on the Espresso ecosystem, including router and storage node applications. Your team will be involved in architecture & design reviews, code reviews, and implementation of both automation systems and core infrastructure components.

As a leader, you'll be expected to drive technical excellence while fostering an inclusive and innovative work environment. Key responsibilities include managing team performance, participating in long-term technical roadmap development, and ensuring operational excellence through robust monitoring and disaster recovery systems. You'll work closely with stakeholders across engineering and business leadership to align technical decisions with business objectives.

The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 7 years of industry experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in technical management. You should have strong expertise in distributed systems, experience with object-oriented programming (particularly Java), and a proven track record of leading teams to deliver complex technical projects.
