LinkedIn is seeking a Sr Staff Engineer, Data Center to join their team. This role will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data centers, which are facilities used to house and manage critical IT infrastructure, applications, and data. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering principles and experience in designing, constructing, and maintaining data center facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing new sites, site expansions, and electrical one-lines for fit-out designs
- Developing and ensuring striping plans are accurate and fail-over designs comply with LinkedIn's resiliency standards
- Developing electrical models and calculations to support document repository and as-built documents
- Supporting data center fit-outs to ensure proper compliance with electrical design, testing, and schedule adherence
- Developing comprehensive maintenance programs in coordination with data center providers and internal stakeholders
- Supporting engineering investigations and root cause analysis for outage events
- Ensuring documentation is captured, stored, referenced, and shared with field engineering and operation teams
- Reviewing maintenance notifications for impact and ensuring proper risk classifications and resolutions
- Training and supporting onsite personnel to diagnose electrical issues
- Testing and evaluating new electrical components for installation into LinkedIn's data centers
- Working with partner teams to plan for future hardware and capacity needs
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Process Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in defining, designing, and operating data center critical infrastructure
- 7+ years in direct data center construction experience
- Experience creating and/or executing large-scale critical infrastructure maintenance and reliability programs
- Ability to create clear, consistent, and understandable technical documentation
- Professional certifications such as CRE, CMRP, PE, CEng, or PMP
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate Degree in relevant field with 4+ years of technical project management experience
- 12+ years in direct data center construction experience
- Experience in management, engineering, or operations of hyperscale datacenter critical environments
- Proficiency in AutoCad and/or Revit, and implementation or maintenance of DCIM applications
- Strong project management and communication skills
