Principal Software Development Engineer

Mapbox, the leading real-time location platform, is seeking a Principal Software Development Engineer to spearhead their Navigation team's technical excellence and innovation. The position requires a seasoned leader with 15+ years of engineering experience who will be responsible for defining the technical vision for all Navigation products. Working from Germany with the flexibility of remote work, you'll lead a global team of approximately 80 engineers while collaborating with cross-functional partners, including Product teams, Directors, and C-level executives.

Your responsibilities will span from developing strategic roadmaps to hands-on technical leadership in building large-scale systems. The role demands expertise in multiple programming languages (C/C++, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript) and deep knowledge of cloud services, particularly AWS. You'll be instrumental in launching innovative products like MapGPT and Mapbox for EV, while enhancing in-vehicle navigation experiences with 3D styling.
