Description For Data Scientist

Mastercard is seeking a Data Scientist to join their Economics & Location team, focusing on delivering timely insights and forecasts through data analysis and modeling. This role is part of Mastercard's mission to power economies and empower people across 200+ countries through innovative financial technology solutions.

The position involves working with the Economics & Location products team, which leverages Mastercard data to deliver insights and forecasts on macro- and microeconomic trends around sales performance across sectors, geographies, and channels. These insights serve as key indicators of industry performance based on actual, near real-time spend data.

As a Data Scientist, you'll be part of a cross-functional team including data scientists, data engineers, econometricians, and platform designers. Your responsibilities will include analyzing diverse datasets, developing new models and forecasts, designing outlier detection algorithms, and creating prototypes for new offerings. The role requires strong technical skills in SQL, Python or R, and experience with big data and time series analysis.

The ideal candidate should have 2-4 years of experience, strong analytical capabilities, and excellent communication skills to effectively convey complex ideas to stakeholders. Experience with credit card data is particularly valuable. You'll work in a fast-paced environment where you'll actively seek responsibility and take pride in delivering high-quality results.

Responsibilities For Data Scientist

  • Analyze & synthesize data sets from within Mastercard and beyond
  • Create prototypes for new ideas/offerings
  • Develop new models and detailed forecasts
  • Design outlier detection algorithms
  • Help locate and ingest relevant 3rd party data
  • Deliver timely insights and forecasts to internal and external stakeholders

Requirements For Data Scientist

Python
  • Undergraduate or master's degree and at least 2-4 years of work experience
  • Solid ability to write SQL
  • Experience with big data
  • Very comfortable programming in Python or R
  • Experience with time series data and models
  • A solid foundation in managing large datasets
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in English and local office language(s)
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
