Description For Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure / Networking

Mercari, founded in 2013, is seeking a Software Engineer for their Cloud Infrastructure and Networking team. The role focuses on making communication between customers and systems smooth, reliable, and secure. The Networking Platform Team manages the entire network infrastructure from CDN to cloud, service mesh, and physical data centers. You'll work on implementing Istio service mesh, migrating Kubernetes clusters, and improving platform features. The ideal candidate should have strong networking expertise, cloud platform experience, and coding skills in Go/Python. You'll collaborate with SRE and Security teams while automating operations and developing tools for internal users. The position offers flexible work hours in a hybrid setting at their Tokyo office. Responsibilities For Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure / Networking

  • Design, develop, and maintain platform features and tools that support the entire software development cycle
  • Enhance the system to reduce operational engineering costs
  • Support the migration to and adoption of new platform features and tools
  • Work with the SRE and Security teams to improve platform security and reliability
  • Automate daily platform operations to reduce toil and improve efficiency
  • Collaborate with internal developers to understand their needs and provide solutions

Requirements For Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure / Networking

Go
Python
Kubernetes
  • Strong coding skills (Golang, Python, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Networking expertise (TCP/IP, CIDR, OSI Layers 4-7, cloud routing, CDN, DNS, TLS, HTTP)
  • Experience with Istio, Linkerd, and service meshes in production
  • Cloud platform experience (GCP, AWS), including cloud and Kubernetes networking
  • Proficient with network proxies (Envoy, HAProxy, Nginx) and regional/VPC routing
  • Background in infrastructure management, automation, and system architecture design
  • Experience writing design docs, collaborating with stakeholders, and making tech decisions
  • Proven ability to develop tools for internal users and improve platform operations
  • English: Proficient (CEFR - C1)
  • Japanese: Basic (CEFR - A2) optional
