Meta is seeking a Technical Writer for their Central Accessibility team to lead documentation efforts for accessibility best practices and tooling. This role combines technical writing expertise with accessibility knowledge, requiring the ability to translate complex information into clear, well-structured documentation and training materials.

The position involves working closely with accessibility subject matter experts to create and maintain high-quality documentation for designers and software engineers. The role encompasses documenting accessibility best practices across mobile and desktop platforms, maintaining internal tool documentation, and developing training materials.

As a Documentation Engineer, you'll be responsible for ensuring content quality, accuracy, and discoverability. You'll need to be proficient with authoring tools and technologies, including content management systems, XML, HTML, and Markdown. The role requires experience in technical documentation specifically targeted at designers and developers.

The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience in instructional design or technical documentation, with knowledge of accessibility standards like WCAG. You'll be working in Meta's Enterprise Engineering division, contributing to their mission of building technologies that connect people and communities.

This position offers competitive compensation ranging from $143,000 to $200,000 annually, plus bonus and equity opportunities. Responsibilities For Documentation Engineer / Technical Writer

  • Design, write, and edit technical and process documentation related to accessibility best practices across mobile and desktop
  • Create and maintain documentation for internal tools
  • Design, develop, and edit training materials about accessibility best practices and tools
  • Group and organize content to drive discoverability of materials
  • Use standards and style guides to ensure content meets quality expectations
  • Work closely with engineering and design subject matter experts
  • Use assistive technologies to verify accessibility solutions across multiple platforms

Requirements For Documentation Engineer / Technical Writer

  • BA/BS degree in computer science, English, journalism, technical authoring or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years experience in instructional design, authoring, or technical documentation
  • Experience with authoring tools and technologies, including CMS, XML, HTML and Markdown
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines and aligning priorities with stakeholders
  • Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) preferred
  • Familiarity with common accessibility solutions across mobile and web preferred
  • Familiarity with AP Style preferred
