Description For Failure Analysis Engineer

As a Failure Analysis Engineer at Meta Quest (formerly Oculus), you will play a crucial role in determining rapid root cause analysis for issues occurring in new product development and reliability testing. The role emphasizes a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to solving technical issues.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining failure analysis action plans and performing detailed root cause analysis on complex failures from reliability tests and new product introductions (NPI)
  • Cross-correlating data from various techniques to drive conclusions
  • Preparing clear, logical, and professional failure analysis reports
  • Providing on-the-ground support at manufacturing partner sites
  • Working with external partner labs to supplement lab capabilities when necessary

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A Master's degree or higher in physics, chemistry, materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field (PhD preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience in failure analysis, material characterization, or product development
  • Hands-on experience with one or multiple FA tools, including x-ray imaging, microscopy, SEM, FTIR, sample preparation, XPS, etc.
  • A passion for learning new skills and experiences
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% domestically/internationally

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Project management skills
  • Knowledge of consumer electronics and high-volume manufacturing environments
