Description For Reliability Engineer

Meta is seeking a Reliability Engineer to play a crucial role in developing reliable technologies for their augmented, mixed, and virtual reality products. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to assess and enhance product reliability through various testing and analysis methods. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in reliability engineering, with a focus on consumer electronics and hardware testing.

The role combines technical expertise with practical application, requiring someone who can develop and implement reliability requirements, conduct failure analyses, and provide strategic recommendations for product improvements. You'll be working with Meta's Reality Labs division, contributing to the next generation of immersive technologies.

The position offers a competitive compensation package ranging from $170,000 to $240,000 annually, plus bonus and equity opportunities. Based in Redmond, WA, this role may require up to 20% international travel, offering exposure to global projects and teams.

Key responsibilities include developing reliability test specifications, leading stress characterization, conducting failure mode effects analysis, and overseeing reliability testing throughout the product lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in reliability engineering, strong knowledge of mechanical design and material science, and familiarity with industry test standards.

Responsibilities For Reliability Engineer

  • Develop reliability requirements for consumer facing hardware
  • Lead stress characterization of appropriate usage conditions
  • Lead and document FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis)
  • Develop acceleration models and accelerated tests
  • Develop new reliability test specifications and procedures
  • Develop appropriate test plans
  • Apply design of experiments (DOE)
  • Conduct in-depth research into applicable failure mechanisms
  • Contribute to failure analysis and identify root cause of failures
  • Oversee reliability testing and analysis through product lifecycle
  • Provide accurate and in-depth statistical analysis
  • Prepare detailed and concise reliability reports
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement mitigations for reliability risks

Requirements For Reliability Engineer

  • At least 5 years of experience in reliability engineering or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of mechanical design, material science, and failure mechanisms of consumer electronics
  • Experience developing and performing reliability tests
  • Knowledge of industry test standards including ASTM, MIL, JEDEC, and IEC
  • Knowledge of failure analysis techniques
  • Experience managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
