Research Scientist Intern, Central Applied Science (PhD)

Central Applied Science (CAS) is a research and development team at Meta, working to improve Meta's products, infrastructure, and processes. The team focuses on longer-term, foundational work that addresses new opportunities and challenges across the Meta family of apps. CAS is interdisciplinary, with expertise in computer science, statistics, machine learning, and economics among other fields.

The Product Algorithms team in Central Applied Science is seeking research interns for 12 to 24-week internships. The ideal candidate will have extensive graduate training in computer science, machine learning, or related disciplines, and a passion for solving real-world scientific problems.

Responsibilities include:

• Working with vast amounts of data to generate research questions and build data-driven products
• Developing novel quantitative methods using Meta's data infrastructure
• Working towards long-term research goals while identifying intermediate milestones
• Communicating best practices in quantitative analysis
• Collaborating with scientists, engineers, UX researchers, and product managers

Qualifications:

• PhD (in progress or completed) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or related field
• Experience analyzing datasets using Python or R
• Experience developing algorithms in Python, C, C++, or Java
• Experience with empirical research and data analysis

Preferred qualifications include expertise in AI, machine learning, NLP, information retrieval, or data mining, experience with large-scale data systems, a proven track record of significant results, and software engineering experience.
