Description For Research Scientist Intern, Hearing Science and Auditory Perception (PhD)

The Meta Reality Labs Research Team is seeking a Research Scientist Intern in Hearing Science and Auditory Perception for their PhD program. This role is part of the Audio team, which focuses on creating virtual sounds indistinguishable from reality and redefining human hearing. The intern will conduct basic and applied research on perception and speech intelligibility, design and implement novel algorithms, and collaborate with researchers across audio and acoustic engineering disciplines. The internship lasts 12 to 24 weeks with various start dates throughout the year.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research on perception and speech intelligibility
  • Designing and implementing novel algorithms for audio research problems
  • Executing experiments to evaluate new audio technologies
  • Collaborating with researchers across audio and acoustic engineering disciplines

Qualifications:

  • PhD candidate in Hearing Science, Neuroscience, Signal Processing, or related field
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or equivalent programming languages
  • Knowledge of statistics and machine learning at the doctoral level
  • Experience in binaural rendering, spatial hearing, or signal processing
  • Work authorization in the country of employment

Preferred qualifications include experience in human auditory spatial and speech perception, real-time audio algorithm development, and a track record of significant research results. The ideal candidate should have the intent to return to their degree program after completing the internship.
