Description For Research Scientist Intern, Optical Design (PhD)

Meta Reality Labs is seeking a Research Scientist Intern in Optical Design for a PhD-level position. This role focuses on developing next-generation AR Eye Tracking Solutions, with an emphasis on advanced simulations to prove new concepts and understand their performance. The intern will collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners, publish research results, and contribute to Meta's product development. Key responsibilities include optical design and modeling of eye tracking imaging and illumination, exploring novel solution spaces for eye tracking, and working with the larger Meta RLR team. The internship duration is 12 to 24 weeks with various start dates throughout the year.

Qualifications include:

  • Currently pursuing or obtained a Ph.D. in Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computational Imaging, or a relevant technical field
  • 2+ years experience in optical research areas such as wave optics, polarization optics, diffraction optics, or geometrical optics
  • 2+ years experience with scientific programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, and Mathematica)
  • Experience with optical design programs and holographic optical element design is preferred
  • Hands-on prototyping and laboratory work experience is a plus

The role offers competitive compensation ranging from $7,313 to $11,333 per month, plus benefits. This position is located in Redmond, WA, and provides an opportunity to work on cutting-edge AR and VR technologies that will shape the future of human interaction and computing.

  • Publish research results and contribute to research that can be applied to Meta product development

Requirements For Research Scientist Intern, Optical Design (PhD)

Python
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computational Imaging, or relevant technical field
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • 2+ years experience in at least one of the following areas of optical research: wave optics, polarization optics, diffraction optics, or geometrical optics, metasurface, computational EM, emphasizing modeling and/or prototyping
  • 2+ years experience with scientific programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, and Mathematica)
