Description For Gameplay Engineer Intern

Rare, an Xbox Game Studio, is seeking a Gameplay Engineering Intern for a 12-month placement. This role offers a diverse experience in game development, working alongside industry experts. Interns will contribute to various aspects of game creation, including networked gameplay, artificial intelligence, and user interfaces. The position involves hands-on experience in implementing game features, solving engineering problems, and collaborating with designers, artists, and testers. Previous interns have worked on AI abilities, accessibility features, player items, environmental threats, and story quests. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of computer programming, experience with C, C++, or C#, and a passion for game development. Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and iterate on game features

Required Qualifications:

  • Understanding of computer programming and software creation
  • Hands-on programming experience or projects
  • Familiarity with C, C++, or C#
  • Legal authorization to work in the UK

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with managed, object-oriented languages (e.g., C#, Java)
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl, Powershell)
  • Automated testing experience
  • Teamwork skills
  • Experience with commercial game engines (Unreal, Unity, Godot)
  • Web service development or cloud deployment knowledge
  • Open-source community contributions
  • Rendering or computer graphics experience
  • Background in mathematics, physics, or related fields
