Description For Critical Environment Field Service Engineer

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is seeking a Critical Environment Field Service Engineer to join their datacenter operations team. This role is crucial in maintaining and operating Microsoft's vast infrastructure of over 100 datacenters and 1 million servers that support services for more than 1 billion customers worldwide.

The position involves working with critical environment infrastructure, ensuring optimal operational efficiency, and maintaining high availability standards for Microsoft's cloud services. You'll be responsible for overseeing mechanical and electrical equipment operations, implementing safety protocols, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

As a Field Service Engineer, you'll work closely with engineering groups and landlord partners, participate in audit processes, and help develop best practices across the datacenter portfolio. The role requires a strong background in datacenter operations or critical environment facilities, with a focus on both technical expertise and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities For Critical Environment Field Service Engineer

  • Ensures compliance with data center business units and service-level policies
  • Manages programs associated with area of responsibility
  • Maximize Critical Environment (CE) availability in conjunction with landlord partners
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Reduce high-impact and human-error Critical Environment incidents
  • Deliver on cost/energy efficiency initiatives
  • Support delivery of Datacenter's Emergency Preparedness and Response plans
  • Coordinate and supervise CE audits and compliance verification
  • Establish working relationships with Engineering Groups and Landlord partners
  • Work with regional and global peers to share best practices

Requirements For Critical Environment Field Service Engineer

Linux
  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND proven industry experience in datacenter or critical environment facility
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Experience in Critical Environment infrastructures (UPS, Generator, AHU)
  • Bachelor's Degree or Technical College certification in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred
  • Experience working on large scale CE projects
  • Experience with operation of IT infrastructure (Servers, SANs, Networking)
