Description For Critical Environment Instrumentation Engineer

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is seeking a Critical Environment Instrumentation Engineer to join their dynamic datacenter operations team. This role is crucial in maintaining and managing the industrial control systems that power Microsoft's vast global infrastructure of 200+ datacenters across 32 countries.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in mission-critical environments, supporting services used by over 1 billion customers worldwide. As a CE IE, you'll be responsible for maintaining ICS availability, managing critical infrastructure, and ensuring the security and reliability of datacenter operations.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in software engineering or systems engineering, with specific expertise in industrial control systems, including Modbus and BACnet protocols. You'll work in a 24x7x365 operational environment, managing both electrical and mechanical systems while contributing to Microsoft's commitment to environmental sustainability and optimization.

Responsibilities For Critical Environment Instrumentation Engineer

  • Maintaining Industrial Control Systems (ICS) availability, data quality, service and change management
  • Site level ICS program and project management
  • Managing Microsoft's electrical and mechanical industrial control systems
  • Governing logical and physical access to ICS systems
  • Empowering a culture of safety and security in global datacenter operations
  • Developing positive working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders

Requirements For Critical Environment Instrumentation Engineer

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree or applicable field experience in Critical Environments, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical
  • 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and terminology
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings and documents
  • Experience with Industrial Controls Systems (ICS)
  • Knowledge of Modbus and BACnet protocols
