Description For Critical Environment Senior Mechanical Engineer

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) division is seeking a Critical Environment Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their expanding team in Charlotte. This is a unique opportunity to be among the first team members in this location, working on state-of-the-art datacenter infrastructure that powers Microsoft's global cloud services.

The role involves working with Microsoft's massive infrastructure portfolio of over 200 datacenters across 32 countries, supporting services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses worldwide. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll be instrumental in the pre-build and construction phases of new datacenter facilities, ensuring that mechanical and electrical systems meet operational requirements.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $117,200 - $229,200 USD annually, with comprehensive benefits including industry-leading healthcare, educational resources, and parental leave. The role requires a minimum of 4 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field), or equivalent combinations of education and experience.

  • Collaborate with design and construction teams to ensure mechanical and electrical systems align with operational requirements
  • Oversee the integration and commissioning of critical infrastructure
  • Support 24x7x365 on-site datacenter operations
  • Act as technical authority for on-site operations
  • Establish and coordinate maintenance and safety procedures
  • Manage electrical infrastructures throughout datacenter campus
  • Work with commissioning teams to test and validate systems

Requirements For Critical Environment Senior Mechanical Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years experience or Master's with 3+ years experience or PhD
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Ability to meet Microsoft security screening requirements
  • Experience in mechanical engineering for datacenter construction (preferred)
  • 10+ years experience in Data Centers or Critical Environment (preferred)
