Description For Datacenter Design Manager

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is seeking a Datacenter Design Manager to join their team responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage and oversee the engineering and design of Microsoft's industry-leading datacenters, working with both internal teams and external vendors.

The position involves managing multiple concurrent projects, from site due diligence through design development, permitting, construction, and operational turnover. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing engineering scope, schedules, and budgets for various datacenter projects, including greenfield, brownfield, and retrofit initiatives.

This is a hybrid role offering up to 50% work from home flexibility, based in key hub locations including Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, or San Antonio, TX. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $137,600 to $267,000 per year, with higher ranges for specific locations like San Francisco and New York City.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 6 years of relevant experience, with a strong background in engineering or technical program management. They should have proven experience in managing cross-functional projects and a deep understanding of datacenter infrastructure. Responsibilities For Datacenter Design Manager

  • Manage engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield, brownfield and retrofit engineering/design projects
  • Manage internal and external resources for datacenter infrastructure delivery
  • Provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadership for datacenter designs
  • Oversee delivery of multiple concurrent complete Datacenter design solutions
  • Engage with key MS stakeholder groups and outside vendors
  • Facilitate delivery of Microsoft's industry-leading datacenter designs including innovative technology development

Requirements For Datacenter Design Manager

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering preferred
  • Registered / Chartered Engineer or Architect preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering, equipment and/or construction for mission critical or high-tech industry preferred
