Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer Manager to join their Datacenter Engineering team. This role is crucial in delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The position offers a competitive salary range of $137,600 - $294,000 (varying by location) and combines technical leadership with people management responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will lead a team of 4-5 Mechanical SMEs while serving as a Subject Matter Expert in datacenter HVAC cooling systems, plumbing systems, and mechanical building automation. This role requires deep expertise in datacenter cooling technologies and system design, with responsibilities spanning from new construction to retrofits and upgrades.

The position offers flexibility with up to 50% remote work capability and is available in key hub locations including Redmond, Atlanta, and Washington D.C. The role involves collaboration with global teams, external consultants, and requires occasional travel (0-25%) for site visits and factory witness testing.

Linux
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6+ years experience, or Master's with 4+ years, or Doctorate with 3+ years
  • 1+ years people management experience
  • Citizenship verification required
  • In-depth understanding of datacenter cooling technologies
  • Knowledge of large cooling plant and distribution system design
  • Detailed knowledge of PUE and WUE models
  • Travel required (0-25%)
