Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their Datacenter Engineering team in a crucial role supporting their cloud infrastructure. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale, multi-disciplinary datacenter construction projects that power Microsoft's global cloud services.

The role demands a seasoned professional with extensive experience in datacenter electrical engineering, combining technical expertise with project management skills. As the on-site engineering representative, you'll be responsible for ensuring quality design implementation across multiple concurrent datacenter builds, from initial construction through to commissioning.

Key aspects of the role include conducting regular site inspections, reviewing construction progress, managing technical documentation, and coordinating with cross-functional teams. You'll serve as a critical link between engineering, procurement, controls, and construction teams, providing technical direction and leadership throughout the construction lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will bring 8+ years of technical engineering experience, with at least 5 years specifically in datacenter electrical engineering. Your expertise should span electrical systems, power distribution, backup power systems, and electrical power monitoring systems. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, as you'll be working with stakeholders at all levels, including business executives.

  • Serve as on-site electrical engineering and project management representative
  • Perform regular site walks and inspections to observe progress
  • Facilitate relationships with Microsoft site personnel
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and commissioning documents
  • Support submittal review and RFI responses
  • Monitor project management and electrical-related risk items
  • Provide technical direction and decision-making throughout construction lifecycle

Requirements For Datacenter Engineering Senior Electrical Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years experience, OR Master's degree with 3+ years experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in datacenter electrical engineering
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and equipment submittals
  • Experience with electrical systems, power distribution systems, backup power systems
  • Knowledge of electrical power monitoring systems and control diagrams
  • Understanding of commercial and industrial architecture and engineering
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong work ethic
