Description For Electrical Engineer - Data Centre

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is seeking a senior Chartered Electrical Engineer to join their Data Centre Engineering team. This role is crucial in delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business worldwide. The position involves working with complex, multi-disciplinary, large-scale datacenter construction projects.

The ideal candidate will be a Chartered electrical engineer specializing in data center power engineering, capable of working in a fast-paced, multi-project environment. You'll be responsible for providing core electrical engineering expertise to Consultant Architectural Engineering firms and internal stakeholders, ensuring Microsoft's cloud infrastructure meets world-class standards.

Key responsibilities include managing consultant teams, reviewing designs, coordinating complex data center electrical systems, and supporting network growth/upgrade projects primarily in the EMEA region. The role requires extensive experience in data center and substation electrical engineering, with a focus on design, construction, and operations.

Responsibilities For Electrical Engineer - Data Centre

  • Provide technical expertise for data centre projects including new construction, expansions, and retrofits
  • Manage and review external design consultants
  • Collaborate with Global Technical Excellence team and DC Operations teams
  • Perform technical reviews of electrical and controls design documents
  • Lead electrical designs and oversee multiple concurrent data centre design solutions
  • Support network growth/upgrade existing site refresh projects across EMEA region
  • Conduct Factory Witness Testing and final commissioning of installed systems
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders

Requirements For Electrical Engineer - Data Centre

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Chartered Engineer status
  • Experience in mission critical projects
  • In-depth knowledge of data centre and substation design
  • Experience in design, operation and maintenance of electrical systems
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and terminology
  • Strong leadership competencies
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud background check
